Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White played with Jayden Daniels at Arizona State University. So when the Washington Commanders decided to draft his former teammate, White was seriously thrilled.
White joined Bucs GameDay on Thursday as the NFL offseason began. He discussed the Commanders’ draft pick and his reaction to it.
It’s safe to say he’s a big fan.
“I like ‘J5’ to the Commanders,” White said. “I was kind of saying that all offseason, man, that’d be a good spot for him.”
#Bucs RB Rachaad White is praising the #Commanders for drafting former ASU teammate, Jayden Daniels at #2:

The Commanders and Buccaneers might be at odds at times (and had a few postseason battles in the 2000s), but it’s none too surprising to see a former college teammate boast another. White played with Daniels at Arizona State, which feels like a lifetime ago. Consider that Daniels once threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk to beat Justin Herbert and the Oregon Ducks in 2019.
Really.
It’s been a long and winding road for Daniels, and it couldn’t have concluded better for him. Daniels won the 2023 Heisman Trophy after a fantastic season at LSU down in the Bayou. He electrified and gave LSU some really strong quarterback play.
Now, we’ll see how he fares in Washington. The Commanders have been begging for any kind of break to fall their way. Perhaps drafting Daniels is the first step towards that.
