Amid a disappointing season in the Meadowlands, the New York Jets won’t make any big changes. Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed on Christmas Eve that the head coach and general manager are going to stay around.
Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas will be retained for the 2024 NFL season. Johnson confirmed that news Sunday ahead of the Jets’ matchup with the Washington Commanders.
The New York Post wrote on the news. Brian Costello reported, “Jets owner Woody Johnson told The Post on Sunday that general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh will return for the 2024 season.” Johnson informed the publication that it was his decision to retain the coach and GM.
The Jets’ season derailed early on, and we mean very early on. Aaron Rodgers hurt his Achilles on the team’s first offensive series of the year. Amid melodrama all season, the Jets sputtered and won’t make the postseason this year. This despite having one of the best defenses in the league.
But Johnson believes keeping them intact preserves the team’s culture and continuity has shown to be a strength for an organization. While the team questionably moved while they had quarterback issues all year, 2024 is probably going to be a reboot year. So there’s no sense in changing anything in the Meadowlands for Gang Green.
