In less than ideal news, San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts suffered a fractured shoulder this week.
Bogaerts, who signed a massive deal with the Padres in the 2022 offseason, will miss the next two months according to a report from Rotoworld.
Rotoworld posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

The Padres placed the shortstop on the 10-day injured list, but he’s primed to potentially miss much longer than that. He suffered the injury diving for a ball during a doubleheader on Monday, according to Rotoworld, and as a result of that accident, he’ll have to sit and watch idly until he heals.
Bogaerts signed an 11-year, $280 million deal with the Padres in the 2022 offseason. He joined them after a successful stint with the Boston Red Sox in the first part of his career. Bogaerts hasn’t quite replicated the success he had early on in Boston, and this injury only pushes him down the line even more, unfortunately. It’s a dispiriting situation for him, but we hope he makes it out okay.
Bogaerts has posted a .741 OPS with the Padres over the last two seasons. Prior to the injury though, he had posted an OPS of just .581, as he was struggling mightily on a Padres team that is fighting to get back in the NL West race. They’ll now have to do so without Xander Bogaerts.
