Malik Cunningham is back with the New England Patriots. On Wednesday, the Patriots announced they signed the former Louisville Cardinals quarterback yet again.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

“Malik Cunningham cleared waivers and is re-signing with the Patriots practice squad,” Pelissero wrote.

The 2019 Music City Bowl MVP has been on and off the Patriots on numerous occasions this season. The team signed him after he went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has been on the practice squad, through waivers, and on the active roster all throughout the entire season thus far. They released him on Tuesday, but now they’ve signed him back today.

At Louisville, Cunningham played five seasons after redshirting in 2017. Cunningham threw for 9,660 yards, including 2,941 through 13 games in 2021. He threw a career-high 22 touchdowns in the 2019 season and finished his career at Louisville with 70 touchdowns and just 29 interceptions.

New England has gone through it and then some this season. The Pats are in last place but just upset the Buffalo Bills this past weekend in Foxborough. The Patriots were spurred by a strong performance by Mac Jones, who needed a big showing after several weeks of subpar play. Things have gotten so hairy in New England that they’re even talking about Patriots legend Bill Belichick’s job security these days.
