wrestler

A pro wrestler retired from the profession to pursue something on a completely different spectrum.

43-year-old Steven Horne gave up professional wrestling to become a deacon. The former pro wrestler became ordained as a deacon, according to a story by the BBC.

“The Rev Steven Horne, 43, from Ashford, is among a new cohort of deacons and priests ordained by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Dover last month,” the BBC wrote.

The BBC says Horne used to wrestle for South East Professional Wrestling, a promotion that ran in England from 2013 to 2021. He may never have reached the big tents in the pro wrestling world, but that doesn’t make his journey any less fascinating.

Horne was quoted in the article, saying on his decision, “Life can be difficult and sometimes unpredictable, but I rest comfortably knowing that although life is full of slams and suplexes, God has oversight of it all and knows what the end will be.”

It’s often harder than it looks sometimes to give up your passions and careers to pursue other interests. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage also to get yourself out of comfortable situations, even if they might be taxing.

So, good on Steven Horne for seeing all this through. Best of luck to him with his new career choice, and his positive outlook on life should help him along the way.
