Rory McIlroy’s struggles on the golf course have been well-documented especially after he blew a chance to win another major at the U.S. Open a few weeks ago and it looks as if he missed the cut at the Open Championship. Many are now questioning what’s really going on with one of the top golfers in the world.
His former agent thinks he knows why the golfer is struggling. Andrew “Chubby” Chandler, who used to be McIlroy’s agent says it’s his personal life that has caused him to struggle.
“Looking from the outside, I haven’t seen Rory for a couple of years, but to me, it looks like his life is messy,” Chandler told the Daily Mail. “You know what it’s like as a sportsman, you have to have total focus and keep your mind on what you’re doing.”
McIlroy has been dealing with a lot this year from his separation from his wife whom he almost divorced, to his involvement with the LIV Golf/PGA feud, his game has seemed to have suffered somewhat recently and Chandler points that out.
“It looks like Rory has spent a year and a half fighting LIV for the PGA Tour, then the PGA Tour pulled the rug from under him,” Chandler added. “Then he started talking about LIV not being too bad, then he had his marriage problems, and then he’s got such media scrutiny because he hasn’t won a major in 10 years.”
The world’s No. 2 didn’t help his cause by struggling at Royal Troon and missing the cut.
