The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Russell Wilson earlier this offseason. After Wilson flamed out in Denver, the Broncos released him back into the wild. Eventually, Wilson landed in Pittsburgh, and things appear to be going very well.

While Wilson was later joined by former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, it seems like he’s likely to be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 1. Seniority probably helps that out, and he’s an obvious upgrade over their previous situation.

Steelers writer Mark Kaboly of The Athletic joined The Pat McAfee Show this week and discussed how the team is preparing for the 2024 NFL season. From the sound of it, all systems are a go, and he team appears to be fully behind Wilson.

“Well, the team loves him. First of all, they love Russell Wilson,” Kaboly said. “And honestly, nothing against Justin Fields right now, but I don’t think he’s in the position to overtake a guy like Russell Wilson. Because Russell is what this team really is looking for. What Mike Tomlin is looking for. A veteran guy that’s been there done that. A guy that’s able to mesh well with a younger locker room, a guy that has to learn the system pretty quickly. That’s a lot to ask for Justin Fields to do coming off where he was in Chicago and trying to get acclimated here.”

Kaboly not only viewed Wilson as the ‘pole-sitter’ and that he would also “cross the finish line sometime in January.” Whether they’re contenders? That’s “another story” according to Kaboly.
