Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may have been against it once before, but the Toronto Blue Jays star appeared to soften his stance on becoming a New York Yankee. The former Home Run Derby Champion told a reporter on Monday night that he was “open” to the idea of potentially being dealt to the Yankees.
The Blue Jays and Yankees are American League East may be rivals, but the Blue Jays are in last place and the Yankees own the AL’s best record. New York could come calling for Guerrero, and if they do, Vladdy is not entirely upset at the thought if it went down.
Reporter Mike Rodriguez posted an interview Guerrero had with Virus Deportivo on Monday night.
If I get trade to #Yankees I will do my job and try to help that team or any team to win. I’m a professional and love this game #VladimirGuerreroJr told Omar from Virus Deportivo pic.twitter.com/5rQ5a6APzr

Guerrero recalled comments he made about the Yankees, saying he would never want to go there. But his stance has been “softened,” as ESPN wrote. “Sometimes one says things. It is not that I am trying to take back what I said about the Yankees,” Guerrero said via ESPN. “But this is a business. I sat down and spoke with my dad and my family, and this is a business. And I said I would never again talk about this topic and lots of people have asked me about it.”
As the tweet from Rodriguez noted, Vladdy expressed he’ll do what it takes to win, wherever.
It’s important to note, of course, that the Jays and the Yankees have no framework currently for a trade. Intra-division trades are pretty rare. But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen either. That’s just where we reside. Guerrero is the son of Baseball Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, a former MVP winner and one of the best outfielders of his generation. But with the Blue Jays in last place, we’ll see how long his son remains in Toronto.
