Spencer Jones Yankees Credit: Somerset Patriots

Top-flight prospect Spencer Jones knows exactly what it means to be on the New York Yankees. The highly-touted outfielder has gotten plenty excited about his big league future over the past few years. Now that Jones is wrecking shop in Double-A Somerset, that future may be closer than we think.

MLB Network’s Robert Flores traveled to TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey, the home of the Somerset Patriots, to talk to Jones about his big league future.

Jones came off very aware of the situation at hand, and spoke highly about potentially playing in pinstripes.

Flores asked Jones how he’s handling the pressure, considering how everybody knows so much more about prospects nowadays. Jones was aplomb in his response on the ‘scrutiny’ at the level he’s at.

“Nothing too crazy,” Jones confidently said. “I mean, our job is just to play baseball everyday and simplify everything you can. I feel like playing in New York is the ultimate goal of any player, right? Playing in a big market. I feel like the earlier you get to handle those things, the better professional you become.”

Jones continued to discuss the development and the “grind” that he goes through everyday at the Minor League level. Jones said that it’s just all about the work he does and to maximize everything he does.

He said it’s fun to watch the Major Leaguers, and it’s “cool to know” that Yankee Stadium is on the horizon. But he knows he has to be the best version of himself to make the Yankees.
