Boxer Manny Pacquiao has decided his fight against Timothy Bradley will be the last of his career, as he”ll retire from the sport following the bout although you may want to take this with a grain of salt as many boxers attempt comebacks later after retiring. Hell

The 37-year-old had a storied career, sporting a 57-6-2 record. He lost his last fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. by unanimous decision and had surgery in his right shoulder, a loss which Pacquiao contests.

Pacquiao is currently a congressman in his native Phillippines. He said he would begin his campaign for senate after his last fight, saying he wants to help the citizens of his home country.

“I started boxing to help [my family] and now I will end my boxing career because I want to help my countrymen.” Pacquiao told the Wall Street Journal.

Pacquiao was set to fight British boxer Amir Khan in November, which would have been his final matchup. The fight fell through due to Khan’s “middle men” according to Pacquiao.

“There were a lot of middle men – in negotiations – a lot of representatives from him and that is the reason, Pacquiao told Sky Sports.”

Despite his retirement, Pacquiao hasn’t ruled out a future rematch with Mayweather, who’s current retirement (also to be taken with a grain of salt given Mayweather “retired” nearly a decade ago) muddies the possibility. According to reports, Pacquiao’s preferred last match was against the undefeated boxer. Pacquiao admits he’s not sure if that will ever happen.

“I don’t know,” the 37-year-old said. “What is in my mind right now is to retire after this fight.”

Pacquiao has earned more than $400 million in his career, even with his multiple tax evasion issues.

His fight against Bradley will take place April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and is the main event of the HBO PPV card.
