A British man has successfully changed his name to Bacon Double Cheeseburger and the story behind the decision is amazing.
The London Evening Standard reported a man, Sam Smith (not the singer), said after a night of drinking with buddies, he was convinced to change his name. So why Bacon Double Cheeseburger? To quote him, “Bacon Double Cheeseburger was pretty much the first thing that came up. Everyone loves bacon don’t they?” Can’t fault that logic.
Smith Cheeseburger filled out the proper application to become Mr. Cheeseburger from the UK Deed Poll service, and when the paperwork arrived a few weeks later, he happened to be drinking the with the same buddies who egged him on to make the decision initially.
Cheeseburger says people have had mixed reactions to his new identity.
“What people call me is up to them but that’s my name legally speaking now. My mum was furious but my dad thinks it’s hilarious. He’s more than happy to use my new name.”
His fiancée doesn’t seem to find the name-change to be nearly as funny.
“My fiancée is fairly reluctant about marrying a Cheeseburger. That’s something we’re discussing a lot. No girl ever dreams of spending her big day marrying a man called Bacon.”
Cheeseburger is taking it all in stride, saying he has no regrets about making the decision to legally change his name to a greasy burger, even if it was made in a drunken state.
“But I’ve got no regrets at all. It’s been a very fun experience and it’s made a lot of people laugh.”
While changing your name to something so silly is ridiculous, there’s something refreshing about Cheeseburger embracing his new identity all in the name of making his buddies laugh. I think we could all learn a thing or two from him.
