I am pretty sure Gary Woodland violated the dress code at the PGA National Golf Club for the Honda Classic, but I guess you have to do what you have to do to save from taking a penalty stroke.

Woodland shot his 6th hole tee shot into the edge of a water hazard. Since the ball was able to be found, Woodland was able to take his second shot but in the water. So because he didn’t want to play another 12 rounds in wet shoes, socks and pants, he stripped down to his underwear to take his shot. Quite frankly, if you are a profession and have that competitive streak, you do things like this to keep your score down. I don’t blame him one bit.

Unfortunately, Woodland didn’t rebound well from that as he shot a final round 78 and dropped to a tie for 61st place. But if there is a silver lining to this, because Woodland didn’t take a penalty stroke, he saved adding an additional shot on his scorecard and earned $549 more than he would have if he had taken the penalty and dropped to a tie for 65th. For $549 and a bit of funny publicity, Gary Woodland could have had a worse day.
