No one will ever accuse Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval of being the skinny guy at the table. His waistline has been the topic of many discussions and many jokes throughout his career in Major League Baseball.

On Saturday he topped all the jokes about him with one big fail during an at-bat against the Toronto Blue Jays. While taking a hack at the plate, his belly got so expansive that his belt completely broke loose:

Yes, that is Sandoval hacking wildly at an R.A. Dickey knuckleball, having his belt bust open and then struggling to put himself back together again.

The jokes just write themselves.

Even more embarrassing is the fact that this came in Sandoval’s first at-bat of the game. It was also his first start of the season, having gotten just one at-bat over the Red Sox’s first three games.

Sandoval didn’t help his cause in the field either, committing a throwing error in the second inning.

Memorable moment? Sure.

Horrible star to the season continued? No doubt about it. He would finish the day 0-4 from the plate, and the Red Sox would still win, 8-4, despite his play.
