demarcus cousins

DeMarcus Cousins is known for not just being a great basketball player, but also being fantastic on social media. This came up once again Thursday during the NBA draft.

The Sacramento Kings originally had the No. 8 pick in the draft but traded it to Phoenix for a package including the 13th overall pick. With that selection, the Kings drafted Georgios Papagiannis, an 18-year-old 7’2″ center from Greece.

Moments later, Cousins tweeted the following.

Naturally, Twitter went crazy. Was Cousins subtweeting the Kings? Was this a play at Cousins having to guard the 7’2″ Greek center in practice? Was Cousins asking for strength to ask for a trade?

The world may never know.

Nine picks after drafting Papagiannis, the Kings made a trade with the New Orleans Hornets to draft Malachi Richardson out of Syracuse 22nd overall. Cousins’ reaction to drafting Richardson was a lot happier at first glance.

However, Cousins later deleted that tweet, despite it coming off as pretty darn positive, while keeping the nefarious subtweet up for all to see. Hm… odd.

It’s not too hard to see where Cousin is coming from: The Kings’ first pick was strange. Papagiannis is just 18-years-old and has played over the last two years in Greece. Sacramento, meanwhile, already has a pretty young and talented front court with Cousins, Willie Cauley-Stein, and Kosta Koufos. So where exactly will Papagiannis fit in, assuming the Kings don’t let him play in Europe for a couple years to do develop? Time will tell.

As for what Cousins was referring to in his tweet however, we’ll have to wait for future social media clues. Has anyone checked Snapchat?
