Leave it to TMZ to figure out if Denzel Washington is a big fan of former Michigan State big man and Chicago Bulls first-round pick Denzel Valentine.

This past weekend, a reporter from TMZ tracked down Washington and asked the actor about his opinion of the man Washington shares a first name with. The actor revealed that he is a fan of Valentine and mentioned that the two Denzels had met previously.

“I tracked him down, because how many Denzels do you meet?” Washington told TMZ.

Though it is unclear when the two met, the encounter had to also be a big deal for Valentine. During a visit to SportsCenter, Valentine and his parents revealed that he was named after Washington. Valentine’s father was a big fan of Washington, including his roles in “Glory” and “Mo’ Better Blues.”

There’s no word yet on whether or not Denzel Washington is a fan of men named Denzel that aren’t pro athletes.
