The NBA will suspend Matt Barnes two games for physically confronting Derek Fisher in October, the NBA announced. The altercation reportedly stemmed from Fisher’s relationship with Barnes’ ex-wife. The suspension was originally reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowksi.

Back in October, the New York Post reported that Barnes had driven 95 miles to Fisher’s house to“beat the s—t out of him” when he found out that the Knicks coach was romantically involved with Barnes’ ex-wife, Basketball Wives LA star Gloria Govan.

Sources told The Post that Barnes became incensed when his 6-year-old twin sons, Carter and Isaiah, called to tell him that Fisher was at the house.

“Barnes went crazy. He got in his car and went to the house and went after Fisher,” one source said. “Matt then drove down there to beat the s–t out of him.”

The NBA issued the following statement about the suspension:

Barnes has played 25.6 minutes per game for the Grizzlies this season, averaging 8.6 points and five rebounds. That scoring total is the forward’s lowest since 2011-12.

According to Wojnarowki, Barnes will serve the suspension Tuesday against the Miami Heat and Saturday against the Utah Jazz.

It’s unclear why it took the NBA two months to issue this suspension. How complicated could the investigation have been? They had to interview like three people. Anyways, Barnes’ Grizzlies play Fisher’s Knicks on January 16 and again on February 5, so that should be a game to circle on your calendars.
