Johnny Manziel

Not only do Johnny Manziel’s lawyers doubt the former quarterbacks’ ability to stay clean, his very own father echoed a similar sentiment in an even harsher tone to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

“He’s a druggie. It’s not a secret that he’s a druggie. I don’t know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn’t seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn’t die before he comes to his senses. That’s about all you can say. I don’t know what else to say. I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, that would be the best place for him. So we’ll see.”

Paul Manziel pulled no punches in this statement, and it is easy to see why. Manziel’s antics over the last year have been difficult to watch as an uninvested observer. Now imagine being the man’s father. It is a tough reality to face, but at least Paul Manziel is under no illusions: His son needs help, and if he is not going to seek it out under his own volition, the best outcome might be forcing his hand. You’d hope seeing words like these would maybe compel Manziel to get some help but thus far there hasn’t been a hint he’s remotely interested in seeking help.
