July 1st isn’t just the turning of the calendar to the second half of the year, it is also the day that former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel is pledging to get sober. He also plans on hitting the training gym hard and getting his NFL career back.

Lofty goals, but history suggests Manziel is much more likely to stay destructive than sober.

With the day of sobriety nearing us one would think he would start shutting the bad influences out of his life. Instead, apparently it is time to turn up in Cabo, at least according to TMZ.

Pardon us if we don’t believe a guy who is currently holed up in mansion with 20 other people in Cabo and having drugs, booze and who knows what else all over the place around him.

As for the pictures circulating with ladies inside Manziel’s rented-out mansion holding what appears to be a good amount of drugs — he claims to not know the women in question, and says the drugs aren’t his (of course).

“They’re absolutely not mine. I don’t even know that girl.”

Maybe it is one last blowout before he starts taking sobriety seriously? Then again, maybe Manziel is just saying what others want to hear.

With his father and friends fearing for his life and plenty of legal troubles ahead for the former Heisman Trophy winner, this summer seems to be make or break for the troubled athlete.

Even if he doesn’t get sober on his own, the legal trouble he is in may indeed force him to sobriety behind bars. It’s certainly what his dad seems to think is the only way to save his troubled son.
