Conor McGregor, who is not a boxer, is attempting to fight Floyd Mayweather, who is arguably the best boxer ever. So to prepare, McGregor is practicing with actual boxer Paul Malignaggi. Well … was.

Malignaggi ended the relationship after McGregor’s camp posted pictures that made it look like McGregor was beating him, which Malignaggi said was misleading.

Here’s the photo that set off Malignaggi:

Malignaggi said more to ESPN.

“I wanted to be part of this event, but I didn’t want to become the story, and that’s what this has turned into,” Malignaggi told ESPN by phone Thursday night. “I won’t release any information about his game plan or what he’s working on — I wouldn’t do that. But this has become a fiasco. It’s a circus.

“And I do want that sparring video released. The UFC’s PI definitely has that video. I understand it can’t come out now, but Conor, if you have any balls, release what really happened.”

Malignaggi is certainly right that this is a circus.

McGregor appears to be quite bad at boxing, but went full troll mode anyway. And on the pre-fight promotion tour, both McGregor and Mayweather tried to one-up each other in stupidity—McGregor with racism and Mayweather with homophobia.

Congrats to Malignaggi for getting off this stupid ride. The sooner it’s over, the better.
