Earlier this week, it was revealed that Alabama Crimson Tide star player Brandon Miller brought the gun that killed Jamea Harris to suspected murderer Darius Miles on the night of the murder. And following that news, Alabama head coach Nate Oats made some controversial comments.

During a press conference this week, Nate Oats claimed that Brandon Miller was simply in the “wrong spot at the wrong time” and that he “did nothing wrong.” But that description of the events does not exactly sit well with the stepfather Jamea Harris, who points out that his stepdaughter could still be alive if he didn’t provide the gun to Darius Miles.

“He brought a gun to where a person was murdered and he did nothing wrong?” Kelvin Heard said according to AL.com. “Jamea could still be alive.”

Alabama may be one of the top teams in the country and Miller has emerged as one of the top players in the country with the talent to be a potential lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. But Heard said none of that changes Miller’s involvement in the story.

“Brandon Miller is knee deep in this situation no matter how they want to spin this,” Heard said. “We trust the D.A. and the work that they’re doing.”
