One of the best high school basketball players in the country has made his college choice.
Darryn Peterson, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia, will be going to the University of Kansas. Shams Charania of ESPN reported the news on Friday night.
“Five-star Darryn Peterson – the top-ranked guard in the 2025 class – has committed to play for the University of Kansas, sources tell ESPN. Peterson is projected to be a candidate for the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft,” Charania shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Peterson previously attended and played for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Prior to his junior year (2023-24), Peterson transferred to Huntington Prep.
He is ranked as ESPN’s No. 3 prospect in the Class of 2025 behind small forward A.J. Dybantsa (Utah Prep/Hurricane, Utah) and power forward Cameron Boozer (Christopher Columbus High School/Miami, Florida). Peterson is the fourth player in the top 10 of ESPN’s rankings to commit to a college. Boozer, No. 8 prospect Darius Acuff and No. 10 prospect Jalen Haralson have committed to Duke, Arkansas and Notre Dame, respectively.
