UNC has gone on a historic skid and the Tar Heels are reeling.

The Preseason No. 1 team in the country started off 5-0 but has since dropped off the map. The Tar Heels lost four consecutive games and were sent out of the AP Top 25. They are the earliest Preseason No. 1 to fall out of the AP poll and it wasn’t even close either.

Second-year head coach Hubert Davis has had a whirlwind campaign in Chapel Hill. Davis led the team to monster wins over rival Duke last year that sent Coach K packing. And while they lost the National Championship Game, expectations were still through the roof.

UNC lost its conference opener to Virginia Tech to keep the skid going. So after all the hype, the Heels not only fell out of the Top 25, but they also lost their first ACC game. Not the most auspicious of starts for the team as they try to rid themselves of these early struggles.

Davis was asked about the state of the locker room and how things are after that loss to the Hokies. Davis said via On3, “I would say disappointed, tired, and that’s a good thing. If we went into the locker room and everybody was okay, then that would be a bad thing.”

Even with the struggles at the start, it doesn’t look like Davis and UNC are panicking yet. They’re feeling emotions and for their sake, they put that energy to good use.
