When Dr. Jill Biden suggested that both LSU and Iowa make an appearance at the White House, it didn’t exactly go over well with most fans.
First of all, it’s been a White House tradition to have the winners of a major sport event come to the White House and meet the president.
Dr. Biden suggested that both women’s teams visit the White House, which would have been the first time that would happen. Biden felt both teams deserved to be honored for their hard play, but that argument did not play out well on social media.
Many felt as if the First Lady was basically kissing up to Iowa’s Caitlin Clark by inviting her second-place team and felt she was rewarding her rather than just honoring LSU and their accomplishments.
Social media exploded with anger when they heard what the first lady may be suggesting and it got ugly at times when discussing the subject.
To say people were unhappy with the First Lady would be an understatement.
No Ma’am!
When Black women win a national championship, they should not be forced to share the stage with the losing team.
Black women are the most loyal constituency of the Democratic Party. The White House needs to walk this back as soon as possible.https://t.co/0dqZ2NVShm

Even the players added their two cents to this discussion.

Even Clark said this is LSU’s moment, not Iowa’s.
Caitlin Clark shares on OTL that she doesn't want to go to the White House despite Jill Biden's stated interest in hosting her and the Iowa team.

For her part, Dr. Biden retracted the offer, saying it was simply meant as an appreciation of the historic game and great effort by both sides.
Press Secretary for Jill Biden on her comments inviting Iowa’s women’s basketball team: “Her comments in Colorado were intended to applaud the historic game and all women athletes. She looks forward to celebrating the LSU Tigers on their championship win at the White House.”
