On Sunday afternoon, the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team will take on the Texas Longhorns with a chance to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament Final Four for the first time in program history. But regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s game, the Hurricanes got some good news: their head coach isn’t going anywhere.

Jim Larranaga is 73 years old this year, leading many to believe that he might be nearing retirement. But apparently, that’s not the case after all. During a segment on CBS’ Road to the Final Four, Larranaga made it very clear that he will not be retiring from coaching regardless of what happens on Sunday.

“I have no intentions of retiring,” Jim Larranaga said on the broadcast, according to On3. “My wife won’t let me. So as long as I can coach, I want to continue doing it.”

This is good news for Miami fans as Larranaga has led the Hurricanes to unprecedented NCAA Tournament success the past two seasons, taking the team to the Elite Eight in back-to-back years – deeper than the Hurricanes had ever advanced previously.

Larranaga has turned Miami into a legitimate national powerhouse, and it’s clear he has no plans of slowing down now.
