The Arizona State Sun Devils made the tough decision to move on from head basketball coach Bobby Hurley after 11 seasons. The move was announced merely hours after the Sun Devils suffered a 49-point loss to the Iowa State Cyclones in the Big 12 tournament.

“Bobby Hurley has made incredible contributions to the sport of basketball, and that certainly includes many memorable moments during his time as our head coach,” athletic director Graham Rossini said in a statement.

“While we will not be extending his contract, we are so grateful for the 11 years that Coach, Leslie, Cameron, Sydney, Bobby Jr., and he spent with us at ASU. We wish Coach well moving forward and we are thankful for his leadership while at ASU.”

“It’s been a long road. It’s been a special time,” Hurley said after the loss. “Two of my kids graduated from ASU. I’ve had the opportunity to coach some fantastic young men. Had some terrific moments over the years and it’s a great university. Great administration … I don’t have any regrets. I laid it out on the line to the best that I could every night.”

Are the Sun Devils Bout It?

Now, Kyle Odegard is reporting that one former hit maker is interested in throwing his name in the hat.

“Master P [Percy Robert Miller] is interested in the Arizona State men’s basketball coaching gig, per sources. He is currently the president of basketball ops for the University of New Orleans. Coached guys like DeMar DeRozan, Lance Stephenson and Brandon Jennings in AAU ball,” Odegard reported.

On top of his experience at the University of New Orleans and coaching around the AAU circuits, Miller, who featured on the hit song “Bout It, Bout It,” also played professionally both domestically and overseas in various leagues.

Between his experiences coaching, administratively, and as a player, he may be just what Arizona State needs to get things turned back around.
