The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team made history on Friday.

The ‘Canes are going to the Elite Eight for the first time ever. 9-seeded Miami advanced to the Regional Final in Greenville with their 70-65 defeat of 4-seeded Villanova.

“HISTORY MADE,” the Hurricanes Women’s Basketball Twitter account posted with joy on Friday afternoon.

The historic victory nets Miami the chance to make their first-ever Final Four. Should they do it, they’d become the first program at Miami – men’s or women’s – to make a Final Four ever. They await the winner between LSU and Utah.

After the win, the team reacted to the big win and were surprised in a major way.

As Chantel Jennings pointed out, the star Cavinder Twins FaceTimed with legendary rapper Lil’ Wayne.

“ELITE US,” tweeted Miami guard Karla Erjavec.

“Let’s Go Canes!” tweeted Georgia Rep. Esther Panitch, a Miami alum.

Miami football legend and Heisman Trophy winner Gino Torretta congratulated the team.

Notable fan Luther Luke Campbell also congratulated the Lady Canes.

Canes football player Trent Scheuerman was among those to congratulate the team, too.

The Hurricane Baseball, Soccer, and Men’s Basketball teams all joined up with the congratulatory train.

The Hurricanes now boast a 22-12 record after their historic victory on Friday. Ideally, they pick up three more and get to 25, which means they’d cut down the nets in Dallas. But they will have their work cut out for them, surely. in the meantime, they can bask in their history-making victory.
