We have an intra-Big East transfer! Seton Hall’s Kadary Richmond will continue his college basketball career on the other side of the Hudson River.

Richmond will suit up for Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm. The news of Richmond’s decision to transfer from one Big East program to the other emerged on Tuesday afternoon.

Fox Sports’ John Fanta was among those to report the news.

“Kadary Richmond has announced he is transferring to St. John’s,” Fanta noted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

A Big East-to-Big East transfer is a rare sight, but in this new age of college sports, it’s nonetheless a reality. A transfer between teams in the same conference would have seemed unheard of (or in some cases, even “sacrilegious”) but these things tend to happen at a more recurring rate now.

Pitino and the Johnnies landed a quality player in Kadary Richmond. The former All-Big East First Team selection was a huge contributor for the Pirates over the past few seasons. In the 2023-24 season, Richmond averaged nearly 16 points per game while also averaging 7 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He can do it all and should provide a huge veteran presence for the Red Storm this coming season.

St. John’s wants to return to the NCAA Tournament. Even amid expansion talks, it looks like they’re trying to earn their way back into the dance. Getting quality players like Kadary Richmond is a good start.
