Within minutes of Illinois losing 73-63 to Arkansas in the first round of the 2023 men’s NCAA Tournament on Thursday, news emerged regarding a former high-profile Fighting Illini recruit.

Former Illinois guard Skyy Clark announced on Twitter that he’s transferring to the University of Louisville.

Clark tweeted, “today I am excited to announce my commitment to the University of Louisville. I am ready to play for Coach Kenny Payne and the city of Louisville. The time is now to chase my dream with Coach KP and staff but even bigger than that, the dream for Louisville Basketball!”

In January, Clark announced that he was transferring from Illinois.

The 6’3″ point guard averaged 7.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as freshman this season for Illinois. He played in 13 games for the Fighting Illini and started 12 times.

Clark was viewed by many evaluators as a five-star recruit — and Illinois’ highest-ranked recruit — in the class of 2022.

After a humiliating 2022-23 college basketball season that featured a 4-28 record for Louisville and first-year head coach Kenny Payne, the Cardinals have been busy making eye-opening moves already this offseason. Along with the addition of Clark, Louisville recently got a five-star commitment in 7’1″ center Dennis Evans.

Louisville appears to be on the verge of turning its basketball program around.
