Drexel men’s college basketball player Terrence Butler was found dead inside his on-campus apartment on Wednesday morning in Philadelphia.

According to CBS News Philadelphia, “The cause of death is not known at this time.”

The university released a statement:

“On behalf of the entire Drexel community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Terrence’s family, friends and teammates. In addition to being a student-athlete, Terrence was involved in numerous activities and organizations at Drexel and was a friend to many throughout the University community.”

Butler, a 6-foot-7 forward, played eight games over two seasons with the Dragons after battling injuries. He was named to the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in the Colonial Athletic Association for the 2022-23 season.

Butler’s hometown, Upper Marlboro, MD is in the shadow of Washington D.C. He attended Bishop McNamara High School (Forestville, MD), where he was the team’s MVP in in 2019. He was a McDonald’s All-American nominee in 2021.

His sisters also played college basketball (Tasia played at James Madison, and Tiara played at Syracuse).
