When Arch Manning signed with the Texas Longhorns, he was the highest-rated player in the 2023 high school recruiting class and one of the most high-profile high school football prospects in recent memory, thanks in part to the fact that he is the nephew of legendary NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. But headed into his second year at Texas, it doesn’t look likely that he’ll even be the Longhorns starting quarterback.
Earlier this month, the sportsbook BetOnline.ag released odds on who will be the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns to begin the 2024 college football season. And for anyone hoping that Arch Manning wins the starting job for the Longhorns this offseason, the odds paint a pretty grim picture.
The odds give Quinn Ewers -500 odds to earn the team’s starting job heading into next season. Based on implied probability, this means the sportsbook sees an 83.3 percent chance that Ewers will be the team’s starting quarterback next season over Manning. Meanwhile, Manning has just +300 odds to be the team’s starter.
This isn’t exactly a surprise as Ewers was the team’s starting quarterback throughout the 2023 college football season and ultimately led the team to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
Still, these odds are a pretty brutal message to Manning and his supporters that it’s pretty unlikely he’ll be earning the starting role this season.
