When Arch Manning picked the Texas Longhorns as the team he’ll play college football for, there weren’t a lot of details as to why he’d chosen Steve Sarkisian’s program over Georgia, Alabama, and others. Now, the latest quarterback in the Manning family dynasty is talking about why he committed to play in Austin, Texas.
“I think the great tradition and fanbase and everything about Texas football excited me,” Manning told 247Sports on Monday. “I’m glad I can one day be part of it.”
Manning added that Austin itself was a big selling point and that he really enjoyed getting to know the coaches and teammates he’d be playing with.
“I really enjoyed Austin as a city itself,” Manning said. “I liked the coaches and I got along with my host (Michael Taaffe and Connor Robertson) and current players there and I feel we can build something special there in the next few years and I have a lot of trust in Coach Sark. I also like my signing class a lot. I think we’re going to finish out well and have a good class.”
The appeal of playing for a quarterback whisperer like Sarkisian was an opportunity Manning couldn’t pass up.
“Obviously Coach Sark has a rich history,” Manning said. “He’s developed a lot of good players and been on some good teams. I think they’ve gotten better this year and they’re going to keep getting better and I’m excited to be part of it.
“I’m ready to get to Austin.”
