Arch Manning Syndication: Austin American-Statesman

During last week’s blowout win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas Longhorns five-star freshman quarterback Arch Manning made his much-anticipated college football debut. As he strolled out onto the field, the crowd naturally went absolutely wild – a little too wild, in fact.

During his press conference this week, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said that the Texas fans were so excited to see the debut of Arch Manning that the longhorns actually had to tried to quiet the crowd down a little bit.

“Backups are always kind of the fan favorite, but when Arch went in the crowd was buzzing. We had to try to quiet the crowd. Probably there are some butterflies and some anxiousness first time playing early on,” Sarkisian said.

“But one thing I was impressed with was in that last 90-yard drive with our 2s. What a drive for those guys. Super proud for them. Two good third-down conversions in there, the conversion to Johntay [Cook], the conversion to Casey Cain. In the previous drive, he used his legs really well. Things for him to build upon moving forward but happy he was able to get in.”

Manning was the highest-rated overall player in the 2023 high school recruiting class, but he had not played yet this season as he was buried on the depth chart behind starter Quinn Ewers and backup Maalik Murphy.

Manning finished the game with two completions on five passing attempts for 30 yards.
