The college football world is buzzing. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian just made a huge decision on highly-touted freshman quarterback Arch Manning.
Sarkisian stamped out any thought that Manning, a true freshman, would assume the starting role. At least not yet, as Sark named Quinn Ewers the Texas starter. The Longhorns coach told reporters his decision after the spring game concluded.
“I think it’s pretty clear to say Quinn [Ewers] is our starting quarterback and we feel very good about that,” Sark said.

The decision to start Ewers over Manning doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. It would have probably been even more surprising if the decision was in reverse. Ewers held a grip on the starting quarterback position that he gained last off-season. He won the job and appeared in 10 games in 2022. Now, heading to 2023, not even the top signed recruit in program history can take the job away from him.
The CFB world reacted to the huge Arch Manning decision.
“As he should…Arch Madness ain’t ready yet,” a Texas fan said.

“Arch Madness will have to wait,” reporter Brandon Marcello tweeted.

A Texas fan predicted that there will be a shift in narrative now that Ewers is the starter.
The narratives are gonna change from “QB comp” to “arch will replace quinn mid season” lol https://t.co/pFuG5tRuKX

And Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation declared an end to months of dialogue.
After the Orange-White game, Steve Sarkisian said Quinn Ewers is the #Texas starting quarterback, ending months of rhetoric about an open competition at the position. #HookEm https://t.co/sFXRTazDWr
