Rumors have been swirling for days that Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin is in the mix for the Auburn job.  Kiffin has yet to confirm nor deny the rumors but some people close to the program are fairly confident that he could take the job once the season is over.

However, it may also just be a ploy to get more money. If that is the case, Ole Miss seems to be ready to do what it takes to keep its head coach.

According to reports, Kiffin was just offered a contract extension by the school. However, no one knows if he has agreed to the terms yet. If he does, he will become one of the highest-paid coaches in the country.

ESPN’s Chris Low says that the NIL may be a determining factor if Kiffin heads to the Plains.

“The NIL collective at Auburn is ten times what it is at Ole Miss,” Low said. “That’s why I think, ultimately, Lane would go.”

But if the school is offering him more money than Auburn, that might be another reason he would stay.

If he does leave, this wouldn’t be the first time an Ole Miss head coach left for Auburn. Over 23 years ago, Tommy Tuberville made the same move but was eventually fired from in 2008.
