Boston College, which is losing star wide receiver Zay Flowers to the upcoming NFL Draft, is reloading at the position with Ryan O’Keefe, a transfer from UCF.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports on Wednesday night that O’Keefe picked the Eagles over TCU, Houston, and Oregon.

“It was really hard to leave UCF,” O’Keefe said (via ESPN). “I really established myself here. I have a lot of friends and family, too. It was a business decision at the end of the day.”

After playing sparingly his first two seasons for the Knights, O’Keefe had 84 catches for 812 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior, and then 73 receptions for 725 yards and five touchdowns in 2022. While Flowers will be hard to replace after a huge season for the Eagles (1,077 yards on 72 receptions, 12 touchdowns), O’Keefe is a welcome addition.

Thamel reports that BC had the inside track on O’Keefe. Eagles wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt served in that same capacity at UCF, where he helped recruit O’Keefe and later worked with him.

“He’s like another father figure to me,” O’Keefe said. “I’ve known him since I was 17. He’s always given me words of advice and encouragement. He’s a special dude to me. He’s like another dad.”

Boston College finished 3-9 this season.
