As LSU prepares to head to Orlando for a neutral site showdown with Florida State in what should be one of the highlights of Week 1 of college football, LSU head coach Brian Kelly has predicted the Tigers will win.

Speaking on his radio show earlier this week, Kelly had a lot to say about the matchup, noting, “There are still areas that are going to need to be improved. We’re going to take 15 freshmen on this trip and 14 transfers so nearly 40% of this travel roster are going to go overnight for the first time with LSU.”

Despite the inexperience, Kelly then made the bold prediction, “That’s not a disclaimer of any kind, we’re going to beat the heck out of Florida State,” he said.

Kelly certainly knows how to get people talking. In last year’s season opener in New Orleans, Florida State barely hung on for a 24-23 victory when they blocked a potential game-tying extra point, fending off a fourth-quarter rally from LSU.

Both teams go into Sunday’s game with plenty to prove, as Kelly looks to build upon a 10-4 season in his second year at the helm of LSU, while FSU coach Mike Norvell looks to continue to build Florida State back up, taking them from 3-6 in 2020, his first season as head coach, to 10-3 last season.
