The LSU Tigers walk into the 2023 college football season with a lot of hype around them. After exceeding expectations in 2022, the Fighting Tigers have seen their ceiling rise. AP Top 25 voters ranked them 5th in the 2023 preseason poll. Part of the reason is the quarterback position, and LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke on the talent in the room recently.

At his press conference, Kelly went at length on all of his quarterbacks at LSU, including Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier.

Via On3, the LSU coach said, “We really think that it’s important to develop all of our quarterbacks at all times. I think that’s a given, and sometimes you go to camp, and you start to work on gameplan too quickly.” Kelly continued on both Daniels and Nussmeier specifically and also keyed in on quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan.

“I think we’ve done a really good job with Daniels and Nussmeier and continued to work,” Kelly said. “And I think Joe’s done a really nice job of staying focused on their technical development, and I like where they’ve gone in terms of that development and the quarterback position.”

Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier headline the quarterback position, with Daniels leading the charge in Baton Rouge. The former ASU transfer had an impressive 2022 season as he adjusted well from the Pac-12 to the SEC. Daniels threw for 2,913 yards and threw 17 passing touchdowns while rushing for 885 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns.

Nussmeier is a former four-star recruit and the son of former NFL quarterback and college football coach Doug Nussmeier. Both seemingly have impressed Brian Kelly this off-season, so LSU is in good hands this year and next potentially.
