The Auburn Tigers have been making lots of noise recently in the transfer portal. First of all, they received a commitment from former Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne, and now they received a commitment from another Big Ten player.

Former Ohio State wide receiver Caleb Burton III has committed to Auburn. Burton was a four-star standout from Texas and the 160th player ranked in the country according to On3 Sports.

“[He is a ] smooth, natural receiver who wins with route-running and technical skill. Uses precise cuts to separate within the route. Shows high-end body control and ability to adjust to the ball. Dangerous off of double moves,” said one scouting report. “A natural hands receiver. Adept at finding holes in zone coverage and works his way to get open on broken plays. Quicker than fast and can improve his burst off the line.”

With all that said, however, Burton did have a few flaws coming out of high school.

“Does not project as a receiver who will blow by coverage at the college level. Can also stand to improve his play strength. Missed the entirety of his junior season with a torn ACL,” the report concluded.

Auburn struggle a lot last year offensively so the addition of Burton and Thorne should help the Tigers. Ironically, last year’s Tigers starting quarterback TJ Finley is reportedly interested in transferring to Ohio State.

Tiger fans seem to welcome the new addition.

Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze seems to be taking a page from pal Nick Saban’s playbook when it comes to picking players out of the portal.
