Paul Finebaum caused a stir when he asked on his show recently where Alabama head coach Nick Saban was. Neither he nor basketball coach Nate Oats were seen at the Regions Classic in Birmingham last week, which both coaches will usually attend.
While Oats may be on the recruiting trail, nobody knew where Saban was until now.
A caller to the Paul Finebaum Show answered that question. She said a friend of hers was in Rome, and guess who she ran into? Nick Saban. The coach is vacationing in Europe this summer, and from the looks of it, he’s enjoying himself.
“They ran into each other in Rome at the Spanish Steps sometime in the past couple of days,” Michelle Jones told Finebaum.
“The cool part is, Paul, that friend, Vera, she has a daughter in school at Mississippi State,” Jones continued.
It’s not unusual for a coach to take part of the summer off; what is remarkable is seeing Saban do it.
Saban is known as a workaholic, so to hear he is overseas instead of looking at film or recruiting is newsworthy, especially with fans on social media who had plenty to say.

Georgia fans especially enjoy seeing Saban on vacation, not on the recruiting trail.

But as one fan put it, Saban may deserve a little break.
