Tailgating is an essential part of the college football experience. Thousands of people showing up in the parking lot grilling some meat, drinking some beer, and tossing the football around makes for a great time. Even in the unfortunate instance that a fan shows up and sees their team lose, they can still have a fun time before the game with their fellow fans.

For those making the trek to SoFi Stadium for the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship, they are in for a rude awakening as fans will not be allowed to tailgate before Monday’s game between the TCU Horned Frogs and the Georgia Bulldogs.

A section of the College Football Playoff website says that parking will cost $75 for cars and $200 for buses, and “Tailgating will not be allowed in any SoFi Stadium parking lot.” Instead, the “Allstate Championship Tailgate” will be the place to have to tailgate, including a concert by Country music star Kelsea Ballerini.

This looks less like a tailgate and more like a corporate attempt at tailgating that’s more about shoving brands in people’s faces instead of having some fun, but that will be the only pregame offering there.

Needless to say, it’s not surprising to see many take issue with the lack of tailgating for the biggest game of the college football year.

“@RampageNFL I know you are a ram of reason, get Sofi Stadium to allow tailgating for the national championship. this could be a legacy cementing maneuver from you.” –Blooper, the Atlanta Braves mascot.

“Stan Kroenke hosting the National Championship at SoFi Stadium and not allowing tailgating is par for the course with everything we know about him. Zero sports knowledge, completely out of touch with fans, just a decrepit and insufferable pocket full of change.” –Thomas Welch

@SickosCommittee time to hold these criminals responsible…should be illegal that tailgating is illegal.” –Stephen Salle

“Why do you hate fun, fans, merriment and college football, Sofi Stadium?” –Leon Kums

“The National Championship should NEVER be played at SoFi Stadium ever again. Not being allowed to tailgate is a massive failure.” –Big Game Boomer

“Imagine this: two of the best tailgating schools in the country make the national championship, but they can’t tailgate before! I wonder who has the edge now? Thanks SoFi Stadium for nothing.” –Rush Sheppard

Sofi Stadium isn’t allowing tailgating at the National Championship game… We consider this a crime against college football culture.” –Smack Apparel
