It’s been a rough year for the Charlotte 49ers as the team has lost seven of its eight games so far this season. And after its most recent loss to the Florida International Panthers on Saturday, it looks like the team is making a big move with its head coach.

According to Will Kunkel of Fox Charlotte, the Charlotte 49ers are firing head coach Will Healy amid their struggles.

Accordingly to Kunkel, Charlotte offensive line coach Pete Rossomando will be named the interim head coach for the rest of the season until the 49ers find another full-time head coach.

Healy’s stint with Charlotte got off to a rather strong start as he led the team to a bowl game appearance during his first season back in 2019, winning seven games during the regular season. But unfortunately for the 49ers, it’s been downhill since then. The team did not improve, going 2-4 in 2020 and 5-7 last year. The 1-7 start this year sealed Healy’s fate.

Expected or not, it is a shakeup in the college football coaching world, and the college football world had plenty to say about it on Twitter as a result.

The head coaching position will undoubtedly lead to some interest in the offseason.
