Monday the nominees were named for the Heisman Trophy and one name stood out above all others and that was Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett.

Bennett was the first name called out as a list of Heisman nominees and it shocked a lot of people. First of all, Bennett did not make first or second-team All-SEC or SEC Offensive Player of the Year. That honor was taken by Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker who was the AP SEC Offensive Player of the Year and was first-team All-SEC.

The second-team All-SEC quarterback was the current Heisman winner Bryce Young. Both quarterbacks weren’t invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony which stunned many, especially the omission of Hooker who had a fantastic year for the Vols.

The college football world had plenty to say about this and a lot of it wasn’t exactly supportive of Bennett getting a nod over both Hooker and Young.

Stetson Bennett didn’t have a bad year for Georgia, in fact, he had more yards than Young and Hooker, however, he did throw fewer touchdowns  (20)and more interceptions (6) than either Young or Hooker. Four of his 20 touchdowns came against LSU Saturday in the SEC Championship game.

As you can tell, Bennett was not a popular choice even among the media.
