Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders at a press conference in Boulder, CO. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a terrible season last year, bettors haven’t stopped putting money on the Colorado Buffaloes. The sauce of Deion Sanders and his ambitious roster-flip hasn’t deterred people from wagering on CU not just to win the Pac-12 or even hit the over on their win total. No, bettors are still gambling on the Buffaloes to win the College Football Playoff.

On3 tweeted that the Buffs are “the sixth-most bet-on team to win the College Football Playoff on BetMGM, per @johnewing.” They indicated that represents 8.1 percent of the total bets, which are at 250-1. And if that doesn’t say anything, according to On3, “Multiple sportsbooks have set the Buffs’ win total at 3.5.”

Betting on a long shot to win it all is one thing. The fact that Colorado is being bet on so much is pretty insane nonetheless. A lot of faith is being put into Deion Sanders, who will coach at the FBS level for the first time. He also is taking over a woeful Colorado program that bottomed out in 2022. A massive exodus from the program followed Sanders’ arrival, as dozens of transfers left Boulder for other pastures. So, Sanders has his work cut out for him and then some this season. But he and Colorado are hoping to buck the talk and surprise the world.

The CFB world reacted to the insane news.
