As the calendar turns to the winter months, one of the best things to happen is we get to see football played in the snow.

Sunday’s game in Denver between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos is forecasted to feature up to a foot of snow, but Saturday night’s game between the Air Force Falcons and Colorado State Rams gave fans a preview of what Empower Field might look Sunday.

Colorado State fans even made the most of the weather and started throwing snowballs on the field, which caused the team to receive an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Fans in the Colorado State student section were reportedly asked to move further back to prevent the snowballs from reaching the field going forward.

The incident also led to an all-time great graphic from CBS Sports.

Snowballs being thrown in football games is nothing new. It happened in last season’s Miami Dolphins/Buffalo Bills game in Buffalo, among countless other times throughout football history.

Air Force came into this game ranked No. 19 in the AP Poll and currently holds a 7-0 record. The penalty moved the Falcons across midfield on their first drive of the third quarter, which would later result in a one-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Zac Lerner to give them a 20-13 lead.
