Trailing 20-0 in the third quarter, things were already going poorly for Nevada in Saturday’s game against Colorado State. Then, they got worse. Much worse, in fact, as Colorado State scored one of the most unique touchdowns anyone will ever see.

After kicking a field goal to go up 20-0, the Rams kicked off to the Wolf Pack. As the ball was in the air, Nevada return man Ky Woods began to run forward, allowing the ball to go over his head — apparently thinking that the ball would either go into the end zone for a touchback or be caught by a teammate. But no teammate was there to catch the ball, which stopped short of the goal line — meaning it was live.

That led to a scramble for the loose ball. Nevada’s Sean Dollars and Colorado State’s Caleb Goodie got to the live ball at roughly the same time, causing the ball to go into the end zone. Jace Bellah then dove on the loose ball, giving the Rams the strange touchdown.

The unusual score prompted strong reactions from those following the game on Saturday night.

We can say one thing about college football. While it’s not perfect, it’s never boring.

Nevada actually went on a run after this miscue, scoring the next two touchdowns. But thanks to this touchdown (and subsequent two-point conversion), those two Wolf Pack touchdowns only moved the score to 28-14. Colorado State reassumed control from there and went on to win 38-21.
