The Auburn coaching search has taken an interesting turn. There are now rumors that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is in the mix for the open head coach spot. According to some reports, Swinney was in contact with the school over the weekend.

That would be an interesting hire for Auburn considering that Swinney is an Alabama grad and many believe that when Nick Saban retires, his name would be on the top of the list to replace him.

Swinney has had success in the past against Saban, winning his last national championship against him back in 2018. But since then, Clemson hasn’t won a championship and is coming off a season in which they didn’t win the ACC or make the College Football Playoff.

Despite its past success, Clemson seems to be at a crossroads with its program. Since the loss of quarterback Trevor Lawrence to the NFL, the team hasn’t had much success at the quarterback position, which has cost them.

DJ Uiagalelei was supposed to be a future star for this team, but he has struggled these last few years. Given all the unknowns around the state of the program, Swinney may be ready to move on to greener pastures (The SEC).

If Auburn does pull this off, it would be a major coup and raise eyebrows across the country. But that’s a major if. Swinney could be floating his name out there so that Clemson could extend him and make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country.
