It’s well-known in the college football world that Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney does not like the transfer portal and does not use it.
Now, Swinney gives a reason why he prefers not to use the portal to help his team out, he says it’s because those portal players aren’t good enough to play for Clemson.
“I mean, it’s really pretty simple. Most of the guys in the portal aren’t good enough to play for us. That’s just the reality of it,” Swinney said.

Just a few years ago, Clemson was one of the top programs in the country and was making the College Football Playoffs regularly but haven’t appeared in four years and a lot of people put the blame squarely on Swinney’s refusal to change with the times.
While teams like Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Ohio State have used the portal to their advantage, Swinney flat-out refuses and his excuses are inexcusable but not shocking.
This is also the same head coach who also thinks that college football players shouldn’t be compensated and at one point, threatened to quit the game if players were played.
Swinney was considered one of the best coaches in the game, and now he and his program are becoming the laughingstocks of college football.

Dabo Swinney when asked about why Clemson didn’t sign any transfer portal players:
“Every player is technically a transfer. We just signed a whole class of guys transferring from high school.”
Holy spin zone.
