Rumors abound as to who the next coach of the Auburn Tigers will be and one name that keeps popping up is Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders.
Sanders has led his team to an 8-0 record so far this season and is a hot name in the coaching ranks right now. However, Sanders had to debunk a rumor Thursday that he was on a plane heading to Auburn to interview for the head coaching position.
Although some Auburn fans are dying for Coach Prime to become their next head coach, Sanders isn’t on a plane on his way there, contrary to what one Auburn fan tweeted out Wednesday.
“BREAKING: Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders has been confirmed to be taking a flight tomorrow to Atlanta airport. Atlanta airport is the nearest major airport to Auburn University which is rumored to have ties to coach Prime. Will Deion be the next head coach at Auburn?,” read the tweet from Gianni Parello, a non-verified account.

Sanders had to tweet out that he is not, in fact, in Auburn. He is currently in Houston preparing to play Texas Southern on Saturday.

Sanders didn’t say he wasn’t contacted by Auburn, only that he is not currently on a plane heading there. Sanders has tried to maintain in the past that he intends on staying at Jackson State and continuing to help bring attention to HBCUs like his.
