Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders may be on his way to becoming the new head coach of the Colorado Buffalos. But when asked about the position during a recent interview, the head coach acknowledged the situation without tipping his hand either way.
Sanders was asked about potentially riding with a reporter to next week’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos in Colorado, which was a pretty roundabout way to ask if he was going to take the Buffs job.
“That’s a good one, that’s a good one, now that’s a good one there,” he said. “So why you going to do your boy like that?”
Sanders then said, “Why would you assume I’m going to Colorado?”

Sanders may try to deny it but there are plenty of reports to back that he indeed has interviewed and is in the running for several positions, including the opening at South Florida as well.
According to WTVT FOX-13 sports reporter Kevin O’Donnell in Tampa Bay, Sanders has told Jackson State players that he will tell them what he has decided about his future by Sunday.
Sanders and Jackson State will play for the SWAC Championship this coming Saturday in a rematch against Southern University, which they won earlier but you have to wonder if this will be a distraction to his team.
The Tigers go into this game undefeated, but all you have to do is look at what happened last week with Ole Miss and Liberty, when both of their coaches were involved in Auburn’s coaching search, to know how quickly these situations can become a distraction. We will see if the same fate befalls JSU.
