Deion Sanders and Colorado Superfan (via Colorado Buffaloes Football Twitter Account)

Deion Sanders has certainly made a splash since becoming head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team. While he has yet to coach one game, Coach Prime has been making headlines and making it clear how committed he is to turning the Buffs back into winners. He’s also winning some hearts and minds, including those of one very special 98-year-old Colorado superfan.

In a video posted by Colorado’s Twitter account on Thursday night, Sanders showed up at the home of Peggy Coppom, who is not only closing in on 100 years of age but is one of the biggest Buffaloes fans out there.

“Are you Prime? Do I call you that?” asked Coppom upon meeting Sanders at her front door. “How about good-looking?”

Peggy then showed Sanders a collage of many pictures that include her and her twin sister, who has passed away.

“Let me show you, my twin,” Peggy added. “We were known as the CU twins. I just wanted to let you know that I had a twin. That’s why we were known as the CU twins.”

Peggy and Betty were actually inducted into the CU Athletic Hall of Fame in October, just to show how big of a deal they are in the community.

It sure sounds like Coppom was very excited when she heard that Deion was going to be the new football coach.

“When they announced on TV that they thought you were gonna be, and then they found out you were and all that, I sent Rick [George, CU’s athletic director] a mass card. We’re Catholics; I sent him a mass card for prayers,” Peggy said. “So when that happened, I called him on the phone, and I said, ‘God answered our prayers.’”

“Well, He answered my prayers, too,” Sanders responded. “When He sent me here.”

Sanders also invited Coppom to attend the 2023 spring game on the field and we have no doubt that she’ll be there in black and gold.
